    John: A Consistent Recovery

After several days of experiencing heartburn, John visited his cardiologist, who found that several stents placed in his heart had collapsed. John was admitted to a short-term acute care hospital for bypass surgery, and when complications occurred he ended up in a coma with pneumonia. He was also experiencing kidney failure, and was admitted to Kindred Hospital Arizona – Scottsdale for specialized, interdisciplinary care.

“At that point I was preparing to die,” John said. “I just didn’t think I would ever get home. Every day the doctors and nurses would say I looked good and I believed that helped me get better.”

John’s recovery was slow, but consistent.

“I was really impressed with the staff,” he said. “Dr. Hemstreet took the time to explain to me what was going on. I felt very well informed. The nurses Paul and Kenny had a great attitude and made sure I was comfortable. They always brought me popsicles. Ivy was very thorough in cleaning my trach area. Jennifer went out of her way to get food I liked, and if something wasn’t right she took care of it. Bill was always in a great mood which kept my attitude upbeat. Jackie as funny and would make me laugh. Suzy always went out of her way to make sure I was clean and comfortable. I’m very appreciative of the care I received here.”

Kindred Hospital Scottsdale’s success is apparent in stories like these as well as in our quality scores – over 91 percent of our patients and families would recommend Kindred.
